FF16 DLC May Completely Ruin The Game (& Past Final Fantasy Games Prove It)

Video games rarely adhere to the adage of “leave them wanting more,” and Final Fantasy 16’s seemingly inevitable DLC expansion could ruin the experience of a fully self-contained game. The story of FF16 offers a satisfying narrative that reaches a clear, albeit bittersweet, conclusion. It was the first game in the franchise to powerfully tie the series’ name, Final Fantasy, in with the themes of the story. Any DLC that goes beyond the game’s ending could cheapen its conclusion, while DLC that takes place earlier would clash with the urgency of Clive’s quest. Final Fantasy 16 does not need DLC, and past entries should have taught Square Enix this lesson.

DLC expansions to Final Fantasy 15 helped fix an incomplete game, but Final Fantasy 16 is nearly perfect as it is. DLC could do more harm than good.
