Final Fantasy 16 promised the world ahead of its release, but one of its promises never really came to fruition. The FF16 hype train took a long ride, making many stops along the way. From its September 2020 announcement to reveals of its electric combat to tidbits about its expansive story, FF16 presented many facets of itself before any players even had it in their hands. It wasn’t always a smooth ride, either. Some of those facets, like its action RPG battles and M rating, led players to question whether it even had a place in the Final Fantasy series.
